Leevale athletes were in great form at the Lucozade Sport All Ireland championships at Tullamore over the weekend.  The glorious sunshine of Saturday turned into an early morning drenching that lasted most of Sunday.

The 20th annual Donoughmore athletic club’s seven mile road race took place on Friday night last, and attracted a big entry.  Weather conditions were perfect for racing over what is regarded as a tough course.

The national championships at Santry had every thing; brilliant races, brilliant performances; brilliant weather; and world records.  Big disappointment was the size of the crowd – on Saturday there seemed to be more Gardai than spectators.  Could a case be made to take the championships out of Santry – to Tullamore perhaps.

Conditions were damp, cold and windy for the Lucozade Sport National junior and under 23 track and field championships at Tullamore on Sunday.  The weather did not, however, impact too much on performances which were top class.
