Leevale athletes enjoy themselves at Courcey AC Open Sports

The All Ireland Schools’ track and field championships were held in Tullamore today in glorious sunshine, quite a change from the winter-like conditions in Limerick two weeks ago. A number of Leevale athletes competed representing their respective schools.

Courcey AC will hold their annual open sports at 1:00pm on Sunday, May 31st 2009 at G.A.A. Grounds, Ballinspittle. They have an excellent programme for all juvenile ages. Leevale coaches recommend that all the juvenile athletes who have not been selected to compete in the Munster Championships should compete at all the upcoming open sports. [...]

Tonight at the Raheny Shamrock GV Ryan meeting in Dublin, Patrick Maher achieved the European Youth Olympic qualifying standard for the 400m hurdles. Patrick ran an excellent time of 54.65 seconds, well inside the qualifying standard of 54.80 seconds. Congratulations to Patrick from all at Leevale.

At the AAI games held in Athlone today Mark Hanrahan, competing in the 1500m, tracked the pacemaker Anthony Leighio for two laps before taking over the lead and raced on strongly to win comfortably in a time of 3:49.30.
Clubmate David Quilligan finished second in the long jump with a jump of 6.73m
