There were some excellent results for Leevale athletes at day 1 of the National Senior T&F Championships. The highlight of the day was Lizzie Lee’s superb run in the 5K to take gold in a time of 17:15.10. Lizzie was delighted with her win and said “it was great to stand on top of the podium in her Leevale gear.”
Three more athletes also collected medals on day 1. Dennis Finnegan finished second in the triple jump with 14.48m, just 9cm behind the winning jump. Imelda Morrison returned from Wales, where she is now based, to compete in the women’s long jump. Imelda has been jumping extremely well of late and took silver with 5.96m.
US-based athlete Deirdre Murphy took a comfortable second in the women’s discus with a trow of 42.49m.
Day 2: Derval O’Rourke looked sharp from start to finish to take her ninth senior title for the the 100m hurdles in 13.24.
David Quilligan, who is consistently jumping well over 7m this season finished second in the men’s long jump with 7.07m. David Tierney rounded off the medal haul for the club when he took third place in teh 56lb for distance with a loft of 7.91m.
