On Friday, February 13th, 1998, Marcus O’Sullivan made history when he became only the third athlete to ever run 100 sub-4 minute miles. Leevale’s most famous son finished 3rd in a time of 3:58.10, behind winner Laban Rotich, Kenya, in the Wannamaker Mile at the Millrose Games (results), NY, to record his historic 100th. Marcus now joins American Steve Scott (136 sub-4s) and New Zealander John Walker (124 sub-4s) in the century club. Marcus is pictured here (center) with Leevale’s other sub-4 milers, Mark Carroll (left) and Ken Nason (right). Marcus is a graduate of Villanova University, and a triple indoor 1500m World Champion. He ran his first sub-4 at Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA in 1983, and built up to his century over a 15 year period. A complete list of Marcus’ 100 sub-4s can be found in the Leevale history. Well done Marcus on a magnificant achievement!!!
