| The second leg of the county track and field league was held at he CIT track tonight. The mens 800m attracted a big field, with Thomas Quaid of North Cork taking an early lead. From then on the only question to be answered was would anyone get close to him. Martin Byrne of Togher tried his hardest but couldn’t close on the leader. Leevale’s Brendan Crawford made his effort in the last 150m, but by then it was too late as Quaid won easily in a time of 1:54.4, with Crawford second in 1:55.6. Byrne was third in 1:56.1, ahead of Michael O’Connor of Blarney Inniscarra (1:57.2) and Kevin Barry of Leevale (1:57.6). Robert Heffernan of Togher was never troubled as he raced to victory in the 5,000m from James McGee of Leevale. |
