Leevale’s Darren Dinneen continued his return to track racing with another good performance at the IC4A championships in Virginia. With temperatures close to 90 degrees he finished second in his heat of the 800m in a time of 1:48.54. In the final he ran into traffic difficulties in the closing stages and could only finish fourth. However, he did have the satisfaction of clocking a new personal best with 1:48.43. All his training is now being geared towards the Tesco Cork City Sports which will be held in the Mardyke on 19th June. His times have also qualified him for the European under 23 championships which take place in Goteborg, Sweden from 29th July to 1st August. Mark Carroll of Leevale followed up his 3:56.9 mile win with another fast run the following day in an 800m race in Massachusetts. He clocked a time of 1:51.68 for fifth place in a race won in 1:50.44. Neville Davey was eight in 1:53.04. Carroll’s first race on the European circuit was in Hengelo last Saturday where he finished seventh in 3:40.08.
