Leevale Reflect on Another Successful Year at AGM

The small attendance at the Leevale annual general meeting tonight is surely a reflection of the apathy that exists in sport these days, with only a fraction of the three hundred eligible to attend actually turning up at Moores Hotel.  Both the chairman Joe O’Flynn (shown right) and secretary John Smyth reflected on a very successful year that saw Leevale impress at all levels of the sport.  Trophies won included one for the most successful juvenile club in Ireland, and for the most successful club at the Cork track and field championships.  Leevale athletes represented Ireland at a host of events, including the British AAA championships, the European and World cross country championships, the World youth championships, European junior championships, Celtic international, schools international, and a number of other high profile events both at cross country and track and field levels.  Club sprints coach John Sheehan was praised for the work he has done in the past few years, and is now regarded as one of the leading sprints coaches in Ireland.  All the other club coaches were also praised for their efforts.  Another feature introduced by the club is the Leevale web page (www.leevale.org) which has made a big impact on former members of the club, especially those scattered around the world.  It gives them the opportunity to keep up to date with all the news as it happens.  Work on the development of the club’s premises is making slow progress, with the emphasis being put on getting everything just right before any money is spent.  The hope is that this work will get underway in the very near future.
