The SHB road race over the Marina circuit today had to be severely curtailed due to road works, going ahead as a 5k race rather than four miles. From the start Martin McCarthy made his way to the front and never looked back. At the one mile mark he was some eight seconds ahead of the chasing group, with Roy Fahy and Mark Cotter battling it out together. McCarthy won easily in a time of 14:10, with Fahy second in 14:49, and John Kearney third in 15:04. Valerie Vaughan made a successful return to racing in the womens race after missing a lot of training due to injury, winning in a time of 17:02.(Results)
