At the European Junior Track and Field Championships in Riga, Leevale’s Dervla O’Rourke failed to get through to the final of the 100m hurdles, but she left her mark on the event in the form of a new national junior record. Dervla went into the women’s 100m hurdles semi finals ranked 18th and came away 10th in Europe. To achieve it she ran 13.82 secs for fourth place in her heat and that broke the Irish junior record which was set by Limerick’s Olive Burke at 13.90 secs at the Mardyke 15 years ago. Her semi final was won by Mariya Koroteyeva (Russia) in 13.66 secs from Susanna Kallur (Sweden) also timed at 13.66 secs and Manuela Bosco (Finland) 13.68. |
