Carroll Breaks 10,000m Record

Mark Carroll set a new Irish record tonight at the Cardinal Invite at Stanford University.  Stepping up a distance to the 10,000m, Mark won in a time of 27:46.82, eclipsing John Treacy’s Irish record of 27:48.7 set in Brussels in 1980.  Shaun Creighton was second in 27:49.20 and Abdi Abdirahman was third in 27:54.81.  Mark’s time also eclipses Martin McCarthy’s Leevale record of 29:08.81.  Martin started the 10,000m event tonight, in the hope of making the Olympic qualifying time, but he did not finish.
