Cork Intermediate, Vets, and Underage Championships

The Cork intermediate, vets and underage cross country championships were held in Donoughmore today.  A tough course, but underfoot conditions and the weather were excellent.  The intermediate mens race saw a three man breakaway group open a good gap over the rest of the field, with Alan O’Shea of UCC just ahead of Ronan Crowley of Leevale and Brian McMahon of Carraig na bhFear.  Crowley was first to feel the strong pace, and he dropped off.  By halfway though Josh Palmer of St. Finbarrs had joined them at the head of the field, and shortly after went into the lead on his own.  Clubmate Toddy Finn was another who made strong headway through the field and it was he who gave chase, while another Barrs man Eamon McEvoy caught up with O’Shea and they raced together.  Palmer held on to win from Finn, with McEvoy third ahead of O’Shea.  Fergal Meade of Glenbower won the boys under-17 race with Alan Foolkes leading Leevale to the team title in 5th place.  In the girls under-17 race it was Eimear Geary of Leevale who made the early running.  However she was passed by Niamh Walsh of Glenbower in the closing stages and she went on to record an easy win.
