Sunday next promises to provide one of the highlights of the cross country season so far when the National inter county championships take place in St. Augustines College Dungarvan. With places at stake on the Irish teams for the European cross country championships, to be held in Malmo, Sweden, in three weeks time, competition is bound to be very keen. In the senior mens race the Lombard brothers from Leevale, Cathal and Fiachra, will lead Cork’s challenge. In their last outing they achieved a rather unique double, with Fiachra winning the Cork championships by the proverbial mile, and Cathal winning the Dublin championships, running as a guest. During the track season Cathal won a well deserved bronze medal in 5,000m at the Irish track and field championships, behind club mate Mark Carroll. Fiachra, on the other hand, won the Irish 1,500m under 23 title in one of his few races on the track. Cork teams for Sunday; Senior men; F. Lombard, C. Lombard, C. O’Tuama, B. Keane, D. Collins, R.
