The Nike Ballycotton 10 was once again a massive success today, and the glorious sunshine had everyone, runners and officials included, in the highest of spirits. It was again a race for the masses, but up front there was a very serious race in progress. Just one mile into the race there were just three runners left out on their own; Noel Berkeley of DSD, going for his fourth win; Welshman Jamie Lewis of Finn Valley who won the Mallow 10 in January; and English international John Nutall. Berkeley got away in the last quarter to win in a time of 47:52, five seconds ahead of Lewis. Nutall clocked 49:20 for third ahead of Noel Cullen with 50:21. Teresa Duffy of Beechmount won the womens section in 55:56. Best junior was James Grufferty of Leevale who clocked 53:33. |
