Donal McCarthy of Leevale lived up to his promise when he smashed the national record for the 60m with a 6.81 run for third place at the Scottish championships at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow today. The Cork sprinter promised the record would go after he missed out by just one hundredth of a second at the AAI Indoor Games in Nenagh two weeks earlier. At that point he shared the record with Gary Ryan (Nenagh Olympic) at 6.88 seconds. Yesterday’s final was won by John Skeete in 6.76 secs from another UK athlete, Vbgi Ugond, 6.79 secs.
