| There was disappointment for Leevale’s Martin McCarthy this weekend as he continues his preparations for the Olympics at his training camp in Florida. Running in a 5k road race he was outsprinted by training partner Cormac Smith who won in a time of 14:31, two seconds ahead of McCarthy. Conor Holt was fourth. Elsewhere Leevale’s Barry Egan was 2nd in a 3k in 8:30.51, and David Brosnan was second in a 1k in 2:25.67. A week later Egan reduced his PB for the distance to 8:21.32 in winning the MAAC championship. Another Leevale runner Jason Foolkes was 5th in the 5k at the Southland Conference in 15:28.92, a race won by Ciaran Doogan in 15:02.0. |
