On the American circuit there were several fine performances from Irish athletes this weekend. Leevale’s Paul Carroll posted a PB in the 800m at the Villanova Invitational meet when he finished second with a time of 1:54.3, his second PB in a couple of weeks, while Geraldine McCarthy from Tralee was sixth in the 1,500m in 4:42.08. And Villanova coach Marcus O’Sullivan was second in the 10,000m with a time of 31:00.4, just 0.4 behind the winner. Providence College athletes were in action at the Brown University meet, with Dermot Galvin from Clare winning the 1,500m in 3:55.31; Ciaran Lynch from Limerick won the steeplechase in 9:24.60; Emer O’Shea from North Cork won the 800m in 2:12.92; and Katherine Casserly was second in the 1,500m in 4:34.14. At the Arkansas meet Niall Bruton was third in the 1,500m in 3:42.88; Margaret Danagher from Borrisokane was 11th in the 1,500m in 4:50.09, and 20th in the 800m in 2:22.47; while Thomas Quaid from North Cork was 25th in the 800m in 1:56.09.
