Garrett Barry of North Cork continued on his winning ways last Thursdaywith another fine win in the first race of the Nike Ballycotton Summer Series of road races held in Ballyandreen. As ever his speed over the final mile was enough for him to win in a time of 25:49, with Eric Meade of East Cork second in 26:02, and Jim McHugh of Clonmel third in 26:09. They were followed home by Peter Duggan of St. Joseph’s (26:29), James McGee of Leevale (26:39), Tony Archer of St. Finbarrs (26:56), Ted O’Flynn of Leevale (27:15) and Ken Mulcahy of Togher (27:16). Mary Sheehan of Grange Fermoy won the womens race in a time of 29:38, with Mary Sweeny of St. Finbarrs second in 31:18, and Angela McEvoy third in 33:03. Roy Fahy of Proscon was the winner of the Pfizer Six Miler with a time of 31:54, with Ken Mulcahy of Silversprings second in 33:14, and Michael Murphy of Novartis third in 33:29. They were followed home by Ted O’Flynn of DD Williamson, Liam O’Mahony of Army and Dermot Callaghan of SHB. Mary Sweeney of SHB won the womens race from Monica Twohig and Frankie Devlin. The FMRC/Garda Four Miler saw near veteran Billy O’Rourke of UCC record a runaway victory (20:03) from Cathal O’Connell of UCC (20:22) and Roy Fahy (20:40). Ken Mulcahy was fourth, Damien Collins fifth and Liam O’Mahony sixth. Angela McEvoy won the womens race from Mary Sweeney and Mary Murphy. And Enda Grandfield of Riocht continued his recent run of good form with a fluent win in the Dromcollogher Five Miler in 25:16, ahead of George Murray of North Cork, Shane Simcox of North cork and Danny Herlihy of Leevale.
