The Leevale athletic club AGM, held in the SMA Hall in Wilton, saw members in upbeat mood after yet another very successful season, highlighted by the third place finish of the womens team at the Mazda national league final in Tullamore. This was the final meeting for club secretary John Smyth who has decided not to continue in the position. Addressing the meeting he spoke of how much he loved Leevale, saying that being a member had allowed him become chairman of Cork County Board and a member of the national track and field committee. He was particularly thankful to chairman Joe O’Flynn who had driven him all over the country to the various competitions, and also accompanied him to the Sydney Olympics, “undoubtedly the highlight of my time in athletics” Chairman Joe O’Flynn complimented the club officials and coaches who had done a great job throughout the year. He was very complimentary about the new track at the Cork Institute of Technology. The club use the track three times a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-9pm and Saturdays from 12-1pm.
