Leevale’s Mark Carroll continued his efforts to get back into peak condition at the Boston High Performance meet tonight. With ideal weather conditions he decided to attempt a double by competing in the 1,500m and 3,000m. First up was the 1,500m, and here he had to run faster than he had anticipated, but still won in a nice time of 3:39.70. His second race of the night came about half an hour later, but the 3,000m proved to be an easier task, easily winning in a time of 8:07.13. ( Results). A nice night’s work for the European indoor 3,000m champion who has been selected on the Irish team for the European cup later in the month. Des English was 10th in the 1,500m (3:55.73); Vinny Mulvey third in the 3,000m (8:13.14); Marie McMahon Davenport second in the 1,500m (4:21.95); Kathryn Casserly second in the 3,000m (9:40.51) with Orla O’Mahony sixth (9:48.54).
