Carroll Opens Outdoor Season with a Win

Mark Carroll of Leevale opened his track season at the Boston High Performance meet today, held in cold and windy conditions.  Usually at this time of year Carroll has a couple of races under his belt, but, due to a couple of niggling injuries, he did not get to race until the weekend.  Choosing the 3,000m he imposed his class on the race with a win that saw him well clear of the rest of the field.  Indeed, his winning time of 7:58.93 saw him well clear of Dubliner Vinny Mulvey (8:16.97), and Larry Morrissey from Waterford (8:23.14).  (Results ).  Sinead Delahunty was second in the womens race (9:09.44), less than a second behind winner Amy Rudolph, with Marie McMahon sixth (9:18.86).  Peter Coughlan showed good form, at the IAAF meet in Dubai, finishing third in the 110m hurdles with 13.74.  In the UK, Gareth Turnbull ran a PB of 3.38.28 in a big match at Loughborough, just beaten by a Kenyan athlete in 3.38.25.
