The American collegiate athletics year is fast drawing to a close, with many of the Irish scholarship athletes now finished with competition. At the Southland Conference, Leevale’s Jason Foolkes was 4th in the 10k (32:18.17) and William Morris was 11in the 1,500m (4:05.27). At the Sun Belt Conference, East Cork’s Lisa Cronin completed her season with a 13th place finish in the 800m (2:16.82); her sister Olga was third in the 3,000m (9:53.35); and clubmate Terri Hennessy was sixth (10:22.01). Lisa had a busy time, also finishing fifth in the 1,500m (4:43.35), while Olga was second in the 5,000m (17:05.51) and Terri 4th (18:02.83). All three are at Western Kentucky University. Brian Murray who is at the University of Southern Alabama was 4th in the 10k (31:21.82), with Enda Grandfield 6th (31:41.16). The IC4A championships saw Paul Reilly record a new PB in the 5,000m, finishing second (13:56.19), with Keith Kelly third (13:58.87), and Mark Smyth 23rd (14:31.22). Dermot Galvin won the 10k (30:09.96). Nicola Coffey continued her tremendous run in the hammer with another fine win (57.72m); Kathryn Casserly was 11th in the 5k (17:01.07); Aidan Walsh 9th in the 1,500m (3:50.81); Rosin McGettigan 2nd in the 1,500m (4:23.28), with Geraldine McCarthy 19th (4:29.77) and Emer O’Shea 27th (4:43.45).
