Keenan Returning to Form

Glorious weather greeted the competitors for the annual ESB 5k road race over the Marina circuit tonight.  Held under Cork BHAA rules. it seemed a shame to race in such perfect conditions, bur race they did.  From the start it was seventeen year old William Harty from Waterford who raced into the lead, his usual tactic.  This time he was followed by Alan O’Connor from Clonmel, with Cork man Darren Keenan in third. Interestingly, the order remained the same for the entire race, with Harty timed at 15:29, O’Connor 15:37, and Keenan 15:53.  This is a big change for Keenan who struggled to make the top ten in these races at the start of the year.  Others in the top ten; 4th Billy O’Rourke 16:06; 5th Eamon McEvoy 16:08; 6th Phillip Harty 16:17; 7th John Herlihy 16:20; 8th Kieran Ryan 16:26; 9th Sebastian Nautinez 16:29; 10th Ian O’Sullivan 16:31.  Carmel Crowley is another who has made tremendous strides since the start of the year, and in this race she reversed the places with Maureen Harrington from their previous encounter, winning in a time of 16:58, to Harrington’s 17:48.  Carmel Parnell was third in 17:57; 4th Colette O’Riordan 18:29; 5th Mary Sweeney 18:52; and 6th Joan Hough 18:52.
