Lombard Finishes 10th in Impressive Field

There was a clean sweep of the honours by Kenyan athletes in the men’s 8km event at the Fila International Cross Country Meet, around the grounds of Stormont Castle today.  Daniel Gachara crossed the line in 24:18, winning the sprint for the line by a second ahead of Joseph Riri and Luka Keitany.  Seamus Power was first of the Irish in 4th place, followed by Julius Kimutai in 5th, and Fita Bayissa in 6th.  Leevale’s Fiachra Lombard was the second Irishman home, finishing in an impressive 10th place, just 42 seconds behind the winner.  Brother, Cathal, finished 19th.  Paula Radcliffe was a runaway winner of the women’s 4.8-kilometre race, followed by Tara Kryzwicki, the English national champion, in second, and third-placed Helen Pattinson.
