O’Rourke Second in Youghal

 
Youghal athletic club staged their annual four mile road race tonight.  The attractiveness of the race is that they continue to race over three laps of the town centre.  Noel Berkeley of DSD had little difficulty adding another victory to his long list of achievements, posting a winning time of 19:33.  Leevale’s Billy O’Rourke, secretary of Cork City Sports Committee, was second in 20:40, followed by Eric Meade (East Cork 20:53); Dermot O’Callaghan (Donoughmore 20:58); Cillian O’Tuama (Leevale 21:17); Derek O’Leary (Cork 21:47); Paul O’Mahony (Leevale 21:49); Ted O’Flynn Leevale 21:52); Denis McCarthy (East Cork 21:55); and Brendan O’Reilly (Belgooly 21:56).  Carmel Crowley of Bandon continued her assault on track and road races with a comprehensive win in the womens section in a time of 22:14.  Mary Sweeeny of St. Finbarrs was second (24:35), Shirley O’Shea of Midleton was third (29:08) and Margaret Beausang of Midleton was fourth (33:09).
