The youngsters from Washington State in the USA are catching up to their Cork rivals, after recording victory in both the boys and girls cross-country races in Midleton today. The high-school runners, led by Tipperary man Phil English make a trip to Munster every two years for some friendly competition in Cork and Tipperary. This year’s Cork outing was hosted by CBS Midleton and it provided the boys from Washington with a second consecutive victory over their Cork rivals. Robert Wade from the North Mon was the individual winner, followed by Brooks Cooper and John Moore from Washington State. Alan Foolkes of the North Mon was fourth, followed by Tim Hawkins (Washington State), Michael Greenman, Gavin Kennedy, and Sean Conroy. Washington State won the team title with 16 points, from the North Mon with 20 points. The girl’s race was dominated by Angela Talarico of Washington State, who had a comfortable win over teammate Katie Hummell, with Niamh Walsh from Glenbower third, Elizabeth Rosapepe from Washington State fourth, and Joyce Curtin from Glenbower fifth. Washington State were the team winners with 13 points, from Glenbower with 29 points. ( Results).
