Four Leevale runners have been selected for the World Cross Country championships to be held in Leopardstown in two weeks time. Cathal Lombard finished third in the nationals which guaranteed his place; his brother Fiachra was fourth in the nationals, while Martin McCarthy was fifth, and Mark Carroll was pre-selected.
There was some doubt over the past couple of weeks as to whether Fiachra and Martin would be selected for the long course, but, in fairness to the selectors, they have given a vote of confidence to those who actually took the bother to compete in the nationals/trials. Far too many athletes think they have a better chance of gaining selection if they do not compete in trials. Thankfully the selectors have put an end to that line of thinking.
Good luck to all competing in the World Cross.
