Congratulations to all the organising team who again did trojan work organising the 25th Nike Ballycotton 10 last Sunday. Weather conditions disappointed with strong winds and sleety showers – but this was about the only thing that John Walshe and his team could do nothing about. Everything else went like clockwork.
ChampionChip technology was used for the first time and it worked a treat, with results available within seconds of a runners finish.
The race itself went along familiar lines; William Harty was first to lead, but then Noel Berkeley and Gerry Ryan took over and they ran side by side until the seven mile mark when Ryan took over. As ever, Berkeley sat in behind until he sprinted past with 200m remaining for win number 6.
William Harty set a new junior course record of 51:24, well inside Eric Bergin’s 1985 mark, while Teresa Duffy easily won the women’s race.
Once again congratulations to John Walshe and all his team in Ballycotton.
