Damo Leads Irish Team

The schools international cross country championships were held in Derby on Saturday, with four Irish teams in action.
In the intermediate boys race Damien Dunlea from Colaiste Chriost Ri and Leevale continued his remarkable run of success, finishing a creditable fourth, with Ireland second behind England.  This was yet another fabulous run by The Boxer and the determination he has shown so far would indicate that he will be one ot watch for the future.  Well done.

Joyce Curtin from Colaiste Eoin in Youghal repeated the performance by leading the Irish home in the junior girls race, finishing 7th.  Other Irish placings; 11. Laura Huett, 18. Joanne English, 22. Sarah Daly, 23. Laura Scriven, 26. Michelle Naughton, 27. Andrea Flatt.  Ireland were fourth team.
Intermediate girls; 10. Elizabeth McWilliams, 13. Ciara Durkin, 14. Niamh Healy, 21. Laura Bickerstaff, 21. Aoife O’Grady, 23. Cheryl Guiney, 26. Sarah Mulligan, 30. Cora Russell.  Ireland were 3rd.
The junior boys race saw Ireland again take silver; 6. David McCarthy, 7. Kevin Lawlor, 11. Sean Johnston, 14. Charles Reilly, 15. Paul Walsh, 18. Eoin O’Shea.
Also on Saturday the seniors were in action in Wales against a Wales selection, with Ireland winning both team titles. Boys; 2. Greg Walton, 3. Richard Corcoran, 4. Brian Farrell (North Mon), 5.
