Leevale’s New European Champion

Congratulations to Leevale’s newest European champion Carmel Parnell.
Carmel competed in the European veterans track and field championships and put in a storming performance to outstay the best veteran athletes in Europe and win gold in the over 45 category. Not only did she win, but she had twelve seconds to spare over the nearest of her rivals. The championships were held in Potsdam Germany and were run off in a most professional manner.

Carmel follows in the footsteps of Marcus O’Sullivan and Mark Carroll who have also distinguished themselves on the European and World stage.
For years Carmel has been a solid performer at all levels of competition, winning numerous county, Munster, and Irish titles on the track, cross country and on the road, and has competed for Leevale in the Mazda league in the distance events for many years.  She is coached by her husband Hugh, one of the most knowledgeable coaches in Ireland.
Heartiest congratulations to one of the most consistent and obliging athletes in the club on winning a most deserving title.
Leevale was also represented in the european championships by Gerry Murphy and Frank Stam, who also performed with distinction.
