Leevale athletes were in great form over the weekend. Claire Gibbons, just back from a training stint in South Africa showed the benefit of it with an outstanding performance in the national intermediate cross country championships, held at the Phoenix Park.
Claire was in top form as she demolished the field, winning with twenty seven seconds to spare, giving her her biggest win of her athletics career.
Catherine Keohane finished 31st.
In the vets race, Carmel Parnell recorded another fine performance to finish sixth, continuing long list of ultra consistent performances.(Results)
Kathleen Fitzgerald celebrated her first international appearance, outside of schools competition, with a third place finish in the junior shot putt at the indoor track and field international in Cardiff. Her best throw of 10.96 was close enough to her best. An excellent performance considering she was young enough to compete in the Tailteann Games last summer.
Also in action in Cardiff was Jer O’Donoghue. He ran the B 60m, finishing second with a time of 6.97. He was also part of the 4x200m relay team that finished second.
And, to round off the day, former Leevale athlete Derval O’Rourke won the sprint hurdles, setting a new Irish record in the process. (Results)
