Good News for Ailis

A string of top class performances by Ailis McSweeney, including a 11.66 seconds run at the BUPA Cork City Sports, all came to nothing as she just failed at the National under 23 championships at Tullamore yesterday to post the qualifying standard for the European under 23 championships.  It was unfortunate that her race on Saturday was the only one to have a wind reading over the allowable limit.  At Nationals yesterday she easily won the 100m in a time of 11.81, just outside the 11.80 standard.
However, there was good news for Ailis as AAI announced they would be sending a sprint relay team, and she is included.  Just reward for some brilliant performances.
Meanwhile, Cathal Lombard’s 28:05.27 performance at the British AAA 10,000m championships was achieved after he went through 5,000m in a time of 13:49, his second fastest ever for 5k.  And considering he ran the last nine laps on his own it surely ranks as a brilliant run.  He is now number two on the Leevale All Time list behind clubmate and Irish record holder Mark Carroll.  And, on the Irish All Time Lists he comes in at number eight.
Nice going by both members.
