Weather conditions were excellent for the south Munster schools cross country championships at Carraig na bhFear today. Numbers were reasonable in all races, but a big disappointment was that only one team finished the intermediate boys race.
First race on the programme was the senior boys where Jamie McCarthy and Thomas Maunsell broke away from the rest of the field at an early stage. McCarthy proved the stronger and pulled away with just over a lap to go to win. Sean casey was fifth and Keith Linehan seventh.
Damien Dunlea broke clear shortly after the start of the intermediate race and won comfortably from Ciaran O’Lionaird.
The Munster schools championships take place next Saturday at St. Augustine’s Dungarvan starting at 12.30pm.
