Sprinters in Fine Form

Leevale sprinters were in fine form at the Evening Echo South Munster schools track and field championships at CIT on Saturday, held in an almost continuous downpour.
At intermediate level Orla Coughlan and Greg O’Leary were followed home by Amy Clarke and Carl McNamara respectively to give a Leevale 1-2 in both races.  Claire Looney completed the 1-2 junior double, with Claire O’Mahony third in the 200m.
Jessika Zebo had another fine win in the senior 100m hurdles, setting her up nicely for a 100m/100m hurdles double in the Munster championships.  Kate Fitzgerald had another fine win in the intermediate shot.
Ciaran O’Lionaird had another comfortable win in the inter 1,500m, while Mark Hanrahan returned from injury to take silver in the senior 1,500m.  John Shine was third in the inter 15, just outsprinted for second.  Aaron Hornibrook was a clear winner of the inter steeple.
At the AAI Games in Navan Leevale was well represented by the sprinters.  Ailis McSweeney had a good win in the 200m, together with a second place in the 100m.  Jer O’Donoghue finished fourth in the 100m, and Deirdre Murphy was third in the discus and fourth in the shot.
Overall another good weekend for Leevale athletes who will be well represented at the Kit Kat Munster schools championships on Saturday and the Munster junior and under 23 championships at Castleisland on Sunday.
