Leevale was well represented at the Celtic International in Grangemouth Scotland and the Inter Region Match in Derby at the weekend, with Ailis McSweeney winning both under 23 sprint races in Derby.
Ailis renewed her rivalry with Anna Boyle, amongst others, in both the 100m and 200m. On this occasion Ailis was in tremendous form and added two more wins to her tally in great style. In the 200m she dipped under 24 seconds for the first time in her career, clocking 23.93, well inside her previous 24 seconds. However, the following wind was well over the 2.0m/s limit at 4.3m/s. The 100m also saw her inside her previous best, but her 11.58 time had a following wind of 3.7m/s. Ailis now knows she is well capable of these times when the wind isn’t blowing so much.
Deirdre Murphy was also in top form in the discus where she improved on her previous best with a throw of 41.76 and third place.
Mark Hanrahan ran very close to his best when he won the junior 3,000m in a time of 8:41.50.
In Scotland Ciaran O’Lionaird continued his winning ways when he comfortably won the under 17 1,500m in 4:02.13.
Kathleen Fitzgerald also continued her winning ways by taking gold in the shot with a throw of 11.51m, and Claire McSweeney made it three wins when she won the 300m in a time of 40.32.
Carl McNamara found one too good for him in the under 17 200m, finishing second in 22.60, while Derek Duff was fourth in the 100m in 11.89.
Commiserations go to Niamh Cremin who unfortunately fell during the 100m hurdles
Superb performances from everyone who represented Ireland over the weekend. Well done to all.
