The South Munster Schools were held today at Sacred Heart College Carraig na bhFear in cold but sunny conditions.
After a winning sequence of 15 senior team titles North Mon were finally beaten. Not by the expected challenge of Midleton CBS, but by city rivals Douglas CS. The winners were ably led by Mark Hanrahan who took over the lead from the start and ended up a comfortable winner – although he may not have things so easy next week in Dungarvan. After a poor run in the inter counties before Christmas Mark got back on track with a good run in the Belgooly 4 mile road race on St. Stephen’s Day, and followed with a second place finish in the Cross Challenge in Cardiff mid January. That race also saw Keith Linehan finish 27th and Richard O’Connor 35th.
Ciaran O’Lionaird, now over a bout of tonsillitis, had little difficulty winning the intermediate title. Leading from the start he quickly put a big distance between himself and the rest of the field.
Douglas CS won three of the four team titles as well as three individual titles, but Midleton CBS won the best all round school title!!
