The inaugural Leevale U13 Hexathlon consisting of six events both track and field was held at CIT track on Sat 21 Oct 06. The brainchild of Frank Stam, the competition with 60m hurdles, long jump, shot put, high jump, javelin and 600m, proved to be a huge success and the 15 competitors both boys and girls thoroughly enjoyed and learned from the experience.
The competition was designed to introduce athletes to track and field events which they may not have participated in previously and the enthusiasm was plain to be seen by parents and all the juvenile coaches who turned up to officiate.
The high jump was one of the highlights and many athletes surprised themselves with the heights reached, especially Jack Cotter who jumped way above expectations and along with Daragh Walsh and Caroline Murnane provided great entertainment for all spectators and competitors alike.
The last three events continued in terrible weather conditions but this did not dampen spirits and in the end everyone proved to be a winner. Photos
