April 2007. The annual Leevale Open Sports were held this year at the Mardyke Arena, giving most competitors their first opportunity to compete at this world famous venue. The day was overcast with the super warmth of the previous days missing big time. Almost 100 events were completed with most athletes heading home in a happy frame of mind. Leevale would like to take this opportunity to thank all the athletes and clubs who supported the Sports, with special thanks to those who traveled long distances to be there.
On Sunday night after the Sports Leevale held a 40th anniversary Social on the top floor of County Hall. The venue was packed with members spanning all four decades of Leevale’s history. Both Finbarr O’Brien and Liam Horgan spoke of the early days of Leevale, while Cork County Board Chairman Noreen Murphy gave an outline of the contribution of 
members to athletics in general. The formalities ended with a message from three times World indoor 1,500m champion Marcus O’Sullivan.
