Munster Juvenile Pentathlon

On Saturday last while most people were still on their Christmas break Leevale took a busload of athletes to the Juvenile Munster indoor Pentathlon in Nenagh. It is some time since Leevale travelled to the Multievents in such strength, but based on the results and the amount the athletes enjoyed the day, the Multievents will now be a firm fixture on the Leevale athletic calendar.
In the girls U14 Katie Nagle competed extremely well all day to finish in third place. Caroline Murnane closely followed her in fourth place, while Aoife Quane won the shot and set a number of PB’s to finish in a very strong 6th position.
In the boys U14 Daire Walsh excelled all day setting PB’s in every event to win the Pentathlon overall with a new championship record of 3039 points. His Leevale team-mates Sean Fogarty and Eric Stam finished a very respectable 4th and 5th with a just a single point separating them at the end of the day.
Jennifer Murphy’s High Jump of 1.48m helped her secure 2nd place in the girls U15 event.  While April Philpot and Roisin Ní Dhonnabhain performed extremely well in their first ever pentathlon competition.
U16 Boys, Patrick Maher won four out of the five events to set a new championship record of 3628 points. Edmond O’Halloran finished closely in third place on 3243 points, normally this would have been sufficient to win the event.
