The All-Ireland Inter-County and Juvenile Even Ages Cross Country were held at Tramore Racecourse yesterday. Leevale’s top performer on the day was Mark Hanrahan in the senior men’s race. He lead early on and was up with the leaders for most of the race. He quickly made his way into a breakaway group of five. However, eventual winner Alan McCormack of DSD made his break with 4000 metres of the 10,000 metre race to go. Mark held on to the chasing group of 4 and began to lose contact going into the last 2000m lap. He eventually finished in an excellent 6th position. With only the first three selected for the European Cross Country Championships, he narrowly missed out on selection. However his day will no doubt come in the near future.
In the juvenile events, Shauna Fagan who ran superbly well to finish 8th in the girls U14 race. Also running well were Luke Horgan, who finished 30th in the boys U12, and Louise Shanahan, who finished 34th in the girls U12 and was a scoring member of the Cork team that finished 3rd.
Nollaig Hunter also placed well in the senior women’s race, finishing 40th in a strong field.
