Leevale athletes travelled to Carrignavar today to compete in the County Novice, U23 and Juvenile uneven age cross-country championships. The novice & U23 races started the meet in poor visibility due to fog. In the novice men’s race John Shine and James Grufferty were in the breakaway group from the start and they pressed on to finish first and second respectively. The Leevale team finished in second place. John Shine also won the U23 title, which was run in conjunction with the novice race.
Leevale fielded a women’s team for the Novice & U23 race. Jessie Van Hatten’s form continues to improve and she finished a very strong third in the novice race. Aisling Gould’s move to distance saw her take second place in the U23 event with her team mate S. Noonan finishing third. Leevale won the U23 team prize.
In the Juvenile races Leevale fielded teams in the Boys U11 and Girls U13 events. Both teams finished second in their races. Louise Shanahan won an individual medal with a strong finish to take third place in the Girls U13.
