The outdoor track and field season really got underway at the CIT over the weekend with Leevale athletes participating in the South Munster Schools on Saturday, County Juvenile Championships on Sunday and the Munster Junior & U23 Championships on Monday. Due to the congestion of fixtures many of Leevale’s older juvenile athletes understandably opted to skip the county championships this weekend.
Leevale athletes performed very well at the County Championships and the medal count was impressive. It was great to see athletes competing across the range of track & field events.
Athletes with notable performances were, Eli Kadi in the BU12 HJ at 1.30m, Emma O’Brien in the GU13 80m Sprint and Darren Lee BU13 80m. In the GU12 60m Hurdles six Leevale athletes made the final and finish 1st – 5th. Chelsie Wright won the sprint & HJ in GU12 and Eric Stam won the BU15 Shot, Pole Vault, LJ and came second in the discus. Cathal Owens made a return to 400m competition after a period of injury to set a PB of 50.27. The 50 second barrier is now well within his reach. Shauna Fagan dominated the girls U14 1500m race to win very comfortably. Full Leevale results below:
