Irish Women 4th, Men 3rd in European Cup

Leevale athletes contributed a total of 22 points to the Irish men’s and women’s teams that were in action in Tallinn, Estonia, and Leiria, Portugal over the weekend.

The women’s team competed in the 1st League, Group A, and included two Leevale representatives. Derval O’Rourke finished 3rd in the 100m hurdles in 13.12, and Ailis McSweeney came in 7th in the 100m. Both also competed in the 4x100m relay, on an Irish team that finished 5th. Highlights for the Irish team were Eileen O’Keefe’s win in the hammer and a resounding victory for the 4x400m team. The men’s team were in action in the 2nd League, Group A, and finished in a good 3rd place overall. Leevale’s Ciarán Ó Lionáird contributed handsomely to this achievement with a strong 2nd placing in the 5000m in 14:24. Dennis Finnegan, who competed recently for Leevale in the National T&F League, finished 6th in the triple jump. There were good wins for Paul Hession in the 100m, Paul McKee in the 400m, and the 4x400m relay team. Tallinn results
