CIT hosted the Munster Junior & U23 championships on May Bank Holiday Monday, 5th May. This was an excellent meet with four athletes achieving the qualifying times for the World Juniors. Leevale athletes were also putting down markers for the year. Chris Murnane ran an excellent 400m Hurdles winning the race while taking over a second off his PB. Cathal Owens won the 400m, his second win over the distance in two days. David Quilligan finished second in the Long Jump having only achieved one legal jump. David is adjusting his run up at the moment which is affecting his take off, it is only a mater of time before this comes together for him.
Louise McArdle moved up to the 400m in the Junior Women’s race. She ran exceedingly well, but unfortunately she was piped on the line for first place. However it looks like Louise has now joined the 400m club.
In the U23’s Derek Duff started his outdoor season with a very strong double in the 100m & 200m events and it was great to see Greg O ‘Leary back at CIT taking silver in the 200 & 400m events.
Katey Byrd won the Women’s U23 100m Hurdles. Katey was also monitor the performances of the other athletes with a view to places on the national league teams. The first round which will take place in Tullamore on May 18th.
