Leevale’s Orla Barry today finished a very creditable 5th in F57/58 discus final at the Paralympics in Beijing. Having set a Paralympic record for her category in the opening three qualifying throws, Orla looked all set to medal and possibly approach her European record as she went into the last three throws. Unfortunately, the gremlins struck and all three were registered as fouls. Nonetheless, a placing of 5th in the world off only three valid throws is a superb achievement for Orla, who is only 18 years old and has fantastic potential for what should be a long, successful athletics career ahead.
