Derval will be looking for her eighth title in the 100m Hurdles at the National Senior Championships this weekend. This will equal the titles won by Waterford’s Susan Smith Walsh. Derval has recovered well from a slight groin strain suffered at the European team Championships and will be looking to go sub 13 seconds again following her 12.90 run in Loughborough on Wednesday beating rival Sarah Claxton second in 12.95. Derval is scheduled to compete in Stockholm Grand Prix tonight.
A strong contingent of Leevale athletes will travel to Morton Stadium for the National Senior Championships.
Athletes to watch: Ailis McSweeney who also competed in Loughborough and is hitting good form, she will compete in the 100m & 200m events. Jessika Zebo & Louise McArdle will compete in the 400m, both athletes have been showing good for of late. Deirdre Murphy returns from the US to compete in both the Shot and Discuss. Mark Hanrahan will compete in the 1500m and this promises to be an extremely interesting race. David Quilligan will compete in the Long Jump, could this be the competition where he smashes the 7m mark?
An interesting weekend of athletics in store.
