A record field of 695 runners went to the start line for the John Buckley Sports\BHAA 5K tonight, which was held over the Centre Park Road\Monahan Road circuit, and it was a Leevale man that led them home. Mark Hanrahan, who also works at John Buckley’s, won reasonably comfortably, finishing within 20 seconds of Noel Berkeley’s course record in 14:55, 3 seconds ahead of James McCarthy.
Also showing great form was Leevale’s James Grufferty, who is quickly returning to form since resuming serious training in the last month. Tonight he finished in 6th place which was impressive running in a top-quality field, his time of 15:35 reflecting this. Also running well in 12th place was Ryan Creech, who has been dogged by injuries recently. In the women’s event, Carmel Parnell and Jessica Vonhatten were 3rd and 4th respectively.
