Strong Leevale performances at National Indoors

Several Leevale athletes made the long trip to the world-class Odyssey Arena in Belfast this weekend, and most were rewarded with silverware.

Derval O’Rourke, though still a bit off her form of a couple of years back, is improving with every race, and finished second on the track to Gemma Bennett of the GBR team in the 60m hurdles, winning the National Championship in the process. Her training partner, Ailis McSweeney also medalled in a sprint final, finishing third overall in the 60m flat, and second in the Irish Championships.

Derek Duff and Carl McNamara both won the B finals of the 60m and 200m respectively, while Jessika Zebo finished third in the 400m B grade.

Mark Hanrahan was very unlucky to miss out on gold in the 3000m final, only just pipped by Raheny’s Richard Corcoran. Nonetheless, it was a great run by Mark so early in the season, the time of 8:11 boding well for the outdoor track season to come.
