Run, jump, throw! Athletics is sport at its most basic. It’s all about achieving the fastest, highest and furthest results. The World Junior Championships take place every two years as part of the International Association of Athletics Federation’s (IAAF) World Athletics Series.
For seven days in July 2010, more than 1400 athletes representing 170 member federations will gather in Moncton, Canada to compete in 44 medal events. These are some of the best athletes in the world.
Patrick Maher has traveled to Canada to represent himself, Leevale and Ireland in the 2010 World Junior Championships. Patrick has already broken the Irish Junior record twice this year, first at the Leevale Open Sports when he smashed the record that had stood for 28 years. He followed this up last Sunday with his first National Senior title with a new Junior Record of 51.53. He will compete in the first round of the 400m hurdles on Wednesday 21st July at 9:35am local time and carries the best wishes and support of everyone in Leevale with him.
