The Munster Schools Championships were held at CIT on Saturday, May 22nd. Leevale athletes were in impressive form, particularly the senior boys who had a clean sweep in the sprint and hurdle events. Patrick Maher, has already achieved the 400m hurdles qualifying standard for the World Junior Championships, once again put on an excellent display of hurdling, winning in 53.20. Three hours later Patrick lined up for the 400m event, also winning this in a time of 49.06.
David Killeen has been putting some impressive sprint performances over recent weeks. On Saturday his progress continued with a double in the senior boys 100m & 200m events. David posted his first sub 11sec 100m with an excellent 10.94, followed by an impressive 22.37 in the 200m.
There is no one in Ireland to compete with Edmond O’Halloran over the Junior 110m hurdles. This is not good for Ed as he is unable to get the competition he badly needs to improve his times. He won at his ease in a time of 14.90.
Ryan Creech’s return to form from injury continues. Under the watchful eye of his coach Donie Walsh, Ryan had a comfortable win in the senior boys 5K in 15.28.34.
At intermediate level, Philip Crowley won the 3000m in 9.36.01 and Luke Hickey won the walk in 9.31.31. Caroline Murnane finished in second place in the long jump with a PB of 4.99m and Robert Nagle was third in the boys long jump with a distance of 5.86m.
At Junior level, Emma O’Brien finished second in the 200m in 26.71 and third in the 100m in 13.05. Marie O’Halloran moved up to Junior to compete in the 75m hurdles, where she finished in third place in 12.49.
