Day 2 of the Munster Juvenile Championships were held in a blustery and cool Castleisland. The programme was for U9 – U11 girls team competition and U14-U15 remaining individual events.
In the U9 Ball throw team competition Julie Lankford teamed up with Áine Mullins to finish in third place. U10 girls Dearbhail Ní Dheasmhunaigh and Kaitlyn Coffey also finished in third place, just ahead of the Leevale team of Chloe McCarthy and Saoirse O’Flynn. Chloe & Saoirse went on to get second in the long jump. The four girls then teamed up for the 4x100m relay, finishing in third place overall.
All of these girls, and the boys U10 team of Adam Idah & Tareke Wright, will travel to Templempre on June 26th to compete in the All Ireland Juvenile Team Competitions.
The U14 – U15 competition started with the U15 long hurdles. Darren Lee comfortable won the BU15 event, having shaken the injuries that have plagued his season to date. Darren went on to finish a close second in the 100m sprint.
Eli Kadi demonstrated a return to form by finishing second from lane 8 in the BU14 sprint.
In the GU14, Alison Burke delivered on her impressive improvement to finish third in the sprint, just ahead of Marie O’Halloran. Ciara Nalty qualified for her third individual event in the All-Ireland by finishing fourth in the long jump. The U14 girls ran an excellent relay to win in impressive style.
Emma O’Brien, who is running very strongly this season, finished second in the GU15 sprint. Clubmate Emer Dinan finished in fourth place in the same event.
